[402] Moreover, Ānanda, I have declared the stilling of formations (saṅkhārā) in successive order: for one who has attained the first jhāna, speech has been stilled … for one who has attained the base of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana), the perception of form has been stilled; for one who has attained the base of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), the perception of the base of the infinity of space has been stilled; for one who has attained the base of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana), the perception of the base of the infinity of consciousness has been stilled; for one who has attained the base of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana), the perception of the base of nothingness has been stilled; for one who has attained the cessation of perception and feeling (saññāvedayitanirodha), perception and feeling (vedanā) have been stilled. For a bhikkhu whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, lust (rāga) has been stilled, hatred has been stilled, delusion has been stilled.
