[420] "And what, Ānanda, is another happiness (sukha) more excellent and more sublime than that happiness? Here, Ānanda, with the complete transcending of perceptions of form (rūpasaññā), with the passing away of perceptions of sensory impingement (paṭighasaññā), with non-attention to perceptions of diversity (nānattasaññā), [aware that] 'space is infinite,' a bhikkhu enters and dwells in the base of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana). This, Ānanda, is another happiness more excellent and more sublime than that happiness. Ānanda, those who would speak thus: 'This is the supreme, peaceful happiness and joy (somanassa) that beings experience' — I do not concede this to them. For what reason? Because there is, Ānanda, another happiness more excellent and more sublime than that happiness."
