[538] Now on that occasion, Citta the householder had arrived at Migapathaka on some business. Citta the householder heard: "It seems that a number of elder bhikkhus, having returned from their almsround after the meal, were sitting assembled together in the round pavilion, when this conversation arose among them: 'Friends, "the fetter" (saṃyojana) and "things that are conducive to fetters" (saññojaniyā dhammā) — are these things different in meaning and different in phrasing, or are they one in meaning, differing only in phrasing?'
There some elder bhikkhus answered thus: 'Friends, "the fetter" and "things that are conducive to fetters" — these things are different in meaning and also different in phrasing.' Some elder bhikkhus answered thus: 'Friends, "the fetter" and "things that are conducive to fetters" — these things are one in meaning, differing only in phrasing.'"
