[561] Saying, "Good, venerable sir," the householder Citta, having delighted in and rejoiced at the venerable Kāmabhū's statement, asked him a further question: "But, venerable sir, what is the bodily formation (kāyasaṅkhāra)? What is the verbal formation (vacīsaṅkhāra)? What is the mental formation (cittasaṅkhāra)?"
"In-breathing and out-breathing, householder, are the bodily formation; thought and examination (vitakka-vicārā) are the verbal formation; perception and feeling (vedanā) are the mental formation."
