[608] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Nāḷandā, in Pāvārika's Mango Grove. Then Asibandhakaputta the headman, a disciple of the Nigaṇṭhas, approached the Blessed One; having approached … As Asibandhakaputta the headman was seated to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "How is it, headman, that the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta teaches the Dhamma to his disciples?"
"Venerable sir, the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta teaches the Dhamma to his disciples thus: 'Whoever destroys life is, every one, bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell; whoever takes what is not given is, every one, bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell; whoever engages in sexual misconduct is, every one, bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell; whoever speaks falsehood is, every one, bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell. In whatever way one dwells for the most part, by that one is led on [to one's destination].' It is thus, venerable sir, that the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta teaches the Dhamma to his disciples."
