[609] "Headman, 'in whatever way one abundantly dwells, in that way one abundantly dwells — by that one is led.' Such being the case, no one will be bound for a state of misery (āpāyika), bound for hell (nerayika), according to the word of the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta. What do you think, headman? In the case of a man who kills living beings — comparing occasion with occasion, whether by night or by day — which is the more frequent: the occasions when he is killing living beings, or the occasions when he is not killing living beings?"
"Venerable sir, in the case of a man who kills living beings — comparing occasion with occasion, whether by night or by day — the occasions when he is killing living beings are the fewer; rather, the occasions when he is not killing living beings are indeed the more frequent."
