[610] "What do you think, headman? When a man is one who takes what is not given — taking into account the occasions and non-occasions, whether by night or by day — which occasion is greater: that on which he takes what is not given, or that on which he does not take what is not given?"
"Venerable sir, when a man is one who takes what is not given — taking into account the occasions and non-occasions, whether by night or by day — the occasion on which he takes what is not given is the lesser; rather, greater is the occasion on which he does not take what is not given."
"'As one frequently and habitually dwells, headman, by that one is led on.' Such being the case, no one at all will be bound for a state of misery (āpāya), bound for hell (niraya), according to the word of the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta."
