[614] Now, headman (gāmaṇi), a disciple has complete confidence in that teacher, and this occurs to him: 'My teacher speaks thus and holds this view: "Whoever destroys life — every such one is bound for a state of loss (apāya), bound for hell (niraya)."' And he acquires the view: 'Now, life has been destroyed by me; I too am bound for a state of loss, bound for hell.' Headman, without abandoning that speech, without abandoning that mind (citta), without relinquishing that view, he is deposited in hell just as if he were carried off and placed there. 'My teacher speaks thus and holds this view: "Whoever takes what is not given — every such one is bound for a state of loss, bound for hell."' And he acquires the view: 'Now, what is not given has been taken by me; I too am bound for a state of loss, bound for hell.' Headman, without abandoning that speech, without abandoning that mind, without relinquishing that view, he is deposited in hell just as if he were carried off and placed there. 'My teacher speaks thus and holds this view: "Whoever conducts himself wrongly in regard to sensual pleasures — every such one is bound for a state of loss, bound for hell."' And he acquires the view: 'Now, wrong conduct in regard to sensual pleasures has been practised by me; I too am bound for a state of loss, bound for hell.' Headman, without abandoning that speech, without abandoning that mind, without relinquishing that view, he is deposited in hell just as if he were carried off and placed there. 'My teacher speaks thus and holds this view: "Whoever speaks falsely — every such one is bound for a state of loss, bound for hell."' And he acquires the view: 'Now, falsehood has been spoken by me; I too am bound for a state of loss, bound for hell.' Headman, without abandoning that speech, without abandoning that mind, without relinquishing that view, he is deposited in hell just as if he were carried off and placed there.
