[617] "The Blessed One in many ways criticizes and censures sexual misconduct (kāmesu micchācāra), and he says: 'Abstain from sexual misconduct.' Now, sexual misconduct has been committed by me, to whatever extent, greater or lesser. Whatever sexual misconduct has been committed by me, to whatever extent, greater or lesser, that was not good, that was not proper. And even if I should feel remorse on that account, that evil deed (pāpakamma) of mine will not thereby become undone." Having reflected thus, he abandons that very sexual misconduct, and in the future he refrains from sexual misconduct. Thus there is the abandoning of that evil deed; thus there is the overcoming of that evil deed.
