[618] "The Blessed One in many ways censures and reproaches false speech (musāvāda), and he says: 'Abstain from false speech.' Now, false speech has been spoken by me, to whatever extent, great or small. And that false speech which has been spoken by me, to whatever extent, great or small — that is not good, that is not proper. And though I might be remorseful on that account, that evil deed of mine will not thereby become undone." Having reflected thus, he abandons that very false speech, and in the future he refrains from false speech. Thus there comes to be the abandoning of that evil deed; thus there comes to be the transcending of that evil deed.
