[637] Therein, headman (gāmaṇi), this one who enjoys sensual pleasures (kāmabhogī) who seeks wealth both righteously and unrighteously, both by violence and without violence, and having sought wealth both righteously and unrighteously, both by violence and without violence, does not make himself happy, does not gratify himself, does not share it, and does not make merit (puñña) — this one who enjoys sensual pleasures, headman, is praiseworthy on one ground and blameworthy on three grounds. On what one ground is he praiseworthy? He seeks wealth righteously, without violence: on this one ground he is praiseworthy. On what three grounds is he blameworthy? He seeks wealth unrighteously, by violence: on this first ground he is blameworthy. He does not make himself happy, does not gratify himself: on this second ground he is blameworthy. He does not share it and does not make merit: on this third ground he is blameworthy. This one who enjoys sensual pleasures, headman, is praiseworthy on this one ground and blameworthy on these three grounds.
