[638] Therein, headman (gāmaṇi), this enjoyer of sensual pleasures (kāmabhogī) who seeks wealth both righteously and unrighteously, both with violence and without violence; who, having sought wealth both righteously and unrighteously, both with violence and without violence, makes himself happy and satisfied, but does not share it and does not make merit — this enjoyer of sensual pleasures, headman, is praiseworthy on two grounds and blameworthy on two grounds. On what two grounds is he praiseworthy? 'He seeks wealth righteously, without violence' — on this first ground he is praiseworthy. 'He makes himself happy and satisfied' — on this second ground he is praiseworthy. On what two grounds is he blameworthy? 'He seeks wealth unrighteously, with violence' — on this first ground he is blameworthy. 'He does not share it and does not make merit' — on this second ground he is blameworthy. This enjoyer of sensual pleasures, headman, is praiseworthy on these two grounds and blameworthy on these two grounds.
