[778] "Friend, for one devoid of lust for form … for feeling (vedanā). For perception. For volitional formations. For consciousness — for one devoid of lust, devoid of desire (chanda), devoid of affection (pema), devoid of thirst (pipāsā), devoid of fever (pariḷāha), devoid of craving (taṇhā) — the thought 'The Tathāgata exists after death' does not occur to him … the thought 'The Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death' does not occur to him. This, friend, is the cause, this is the condition, why this has not been declared by the Blessed One."
