[99] Then the Venerable Phagguna … Sitting to one side, the Venerable Phagguna said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, is there that eye by which one who is describing could describe the Buddhas of the past — who have attained final Nibbāna, who have cut through proliferation (papañca), cut through the track, exhausted the round, and transcended all suffering (dukkha)? … Is there, venerable sir, that tongue by which one … the Buddhas of the past who have attained final Nibbāna … could describe them? … Is there, venerable sir, that mind (mano) by which one who is describing could describe the Buddhas of the past — who have attained final Nibbāna, who have cut through proliferation, cut through the track, exhausted the round, and transcended all suffering?"
