[1009] "Bhikkhus, and these three faculties — in what do they culminate? They culminate in destruction. In the destruction of what? In the destruction of birth, aging, and death (jāti-jarā-maraṇa). Bhikkhus, it was by seeing the destruction of birth, aging, and death that the bhikkhu Piṇḍolabhāradvāja declared final knowledge (aññā): 'I understand: Destroyed is birth, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more coming to any state of being.'"
