[1061] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, these five faculties (indriya), when developed and cultivated, arise, not having arisen before, and not apart from the appearance of a Tathāgata, an Arahant, a Perfectly Enlightened One (sammāsambuddha). Which five? The faculty of faith (saddhindriya), the faculty of energy, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration (samādhi), and the faculty of wisdom. These five faculties, bhikkhus, when developed and cultivated, arise, not having arisen before, and not apart from the appearance of a Tathāgata, an Arahant, a Perfectly Enlightened One.
