[1062] Bhikkhus, these five faculties (indriya), when developed (bhāvitā) and cultivated (bahulīkatā), arise when they have not yet arisen; and they arise nowhere apart from the discipline of a Sugata (sugatavinaya). What five? The faculty of faith (saddhindriya), the faculty of energy (vīriyindriya), the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya), the faculty of concentration (samādhindriya), the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya). These, bhikkhus, are the five faculties which, when developed and cultivated, arise when they have not yet arisen; and they arise nowhere apart from the discipline of a Sugata.
