[1067] Bhikkhus, these five faculties (indriya), when developed and cultivated, lead to the abandoning of the fetters (saṃyojana), lead to the uprooting of the underlying tendencies (anusaya), lead to the full understanding of the course (addhāna), lead to the destruction of the taints (āsava). What five? The faculty of faith (saddhindriya) … the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya). These five faculties, bhikkhus, when developed and cultivated, lead to the abandoning of the fetters, lead to the uprooting of the underlying tendencies, lead to the full understanding of the course, lead to the destruction of the taints.
