[1081] Bhikkhus, just as, of whatever trees belong to the supaṇṇas, the koṭasimbalī tree is declared their foremost; even so, bhikkhus, of whatever dhammas that partake of awakening (bodhipakkhiyā dhammā), the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya) is declared their foremost, that is, for awakening.

Fetters, underlying tendencies (anusaya),
full understanding (pariññā), the destruction of the taints (āsava),
two on fruits, four on trees —
by these the chapter is named.
