[1186] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu dwell 'as by day, so by night; as by night, so by day'? Here, bhikkhus, with whatever features (ākāra), whatever attributes (liṅga), and whatever signs (nimitta) a bhikkhu develops by day the basis of spiritual power (iddhipāda) endowed with concentration due to desire (chanda) and volitional formations of striving (padhānasaṅkhāra), with those same features, those same attributes, and those same signs he develops by night the basis of spiritual power endowed with concentration due to desire and volitional formations of striving. And with whatever features, whatever attributes, and whatever signs he develops by night the basis of spiritual power endowed with concentration due to desire and volitional formations of striving, with those same features, those same attributes, and those same signs he develops by day the basis of spiritual power endowed with concentration due to desire and volitional formations of striving. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu dwells 'as by day, so by night; as by night, so by day.'
