[12] Setting at Sāvatthī. Then in the morning the Venerable Ānanda, having dressed, taking bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. The Venerable Ānanda saw the brahmin Jāṇussoṇi departing from Sāvatthī in an all-white chariot drawn by mares. White, indeed, were the horses yoked to it, with white ornaments; white was the chariot, white its fittings; white the reins, white the goad-stick, white the parasol, white the turban, white the garments, white the sandals; and he was fanned, indeed, with a white chowry. Seeing him, people said: "Divine (brahma) indeed, sirs, is that vehicle! It has the very appearance of a divine vehicle (brahmayāna), sirs!"
