[1221] The setting is Sāvatthī. Then the Venerable Ānanda approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the Venerable Ānanda said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, what is spiritual power (iddhi)? What is a base of spiritual power (iddhipāda)? What is the development of the bases of spiritual power (iddhipādabhāvanā)? What is the way of practice leading to the development of the bases of spiritual power?"
