Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 1282

[1282] "It is with a mind well established in the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), friend, that I now dwell frequently. In which four? Here, friend, I dwell contemplating the body in the body (kāyānupassī), ardent (ātāpī), clearly comprehending (sampajāno), mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world (abhijjhā-domanassa). In feelings (vedanā) … in mind (citta) … I dwell contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. It is with a mind well established in these four establishments of mindfulness, friend, that I now dwell frequently. "Friend, that bhikkhu who is an arahant, whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who has lived the holy life, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, reached his own goal, utterly destroyed the fetters (saṃyojana) of existence, and is liberated through final knowledge — he dwells frequently with a mind well established in these four establishments of mindfulness." "It is a gain for us, friend! It is well gained by us, friend! — that we have heard in the very presence of the Venerable Anuruddha this bull-like utterance (āsabhivācā) as he spoke it."
