Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 1326

[1326] Bhikkhus, when concentration by mindfulness of breathing (ānāpānasati-samādhi) has been developed in what way, cultivated in what way, is there neither shaking nor trembling of the body, nor shaking nor trembling of the mind (citta)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, gone to the forest, or gone to the root of a tree, or gone to an empty dwelling, sits down, having folded his legs crosswise, set his body erect, and established mindfulness in front of him. Just mindful he breathes in; mindful he breathes out. (To be expanded in full up to: he trains thus, "Contemplating relinquishment (paṭinissagga) I shall breathe in"; he trains thus, "Contemplating relinquishment I shall breathe out.") Bhikkhus, when concentration by mindfulness of breathing has been developed in this way, cultivated in this way, there is neither shaking nor trembling of the body, nor shaking nor trembling of the mind.
