[1370] "Friend (āvuso) Mahānāma, those bhikkhus who are trainees (sekhā), who have not attained their mind's ideal (appattamānasā), who dwell aspiring to the unsurpassed security from bondage (anuttaraṃ yogakkhemaṃ) — they dwell having abandoned the five hindrances (nīvaraṇa). What five? They dwell having abandoned the hindrance of sensual desire; the hindrance of ill will …; they dwell having abandoned the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness, the hindrance of restlessness and remorse, and the hindrance of doubt. Friend Mahānāma, those bhikkhus who are trainees, who have not attained their mind's ideal, who dwell aspiring to the unsurpassed security from bondage — they dwell having abandoned these five hindrances."
