[1407] "And how, bhikkhus, is concentration (samādhi) by mindfulness of breathing (ānāpānasati) developed, how is it made much of, so that it leads to the abandoning of the fetters? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, gone to the forest … he trains thus: 'Contemplating relinquishment, I shall breathe in'; he trains thus: 'Contemplating relinquishment, I shall breathe out.' It is when concentration by mindfulness of breathing is developed in this way, bhikkhus, made much of in this way, that it leads to the abandoning of the fetters." …
