[1416] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove (Veḷuvana), the Squirrels' Feeding Ground (Kalandakanivāpa). Now on that occasion the lay follower (upāsaka) Dīghāvu was afflicted, suffering, gravely ill. Then the lay follower Dīghāvu addressed his father, the householder Jotiya: "Come, householder, approach the Blessed One; having approached, pay homage in my name with your head at the Blessed One's feet, saying: 'Venerable sir, the lay follower Dīghāvu is afflicted, suffering, gravely ill; he pays homage with his head at the Blessed One's feet.' And say this: 'It would be good, venerable sir, if the Blessed One would approach the residence of the lay follower Dīghāvu, out of compassion.'" "Very well, dear," the householder Jotiya replied to the lay follower Dīghāvu, and he approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side.
