[1455] The brahmins and householders of Veḷudvāra heard: "It is said, sirs, that the ascetic Gotama, the son of the Sakyans, who went forth from the Sakyan clan, while wandering on tour among the Kosalans with a large Saṅgha of bhikkhus, has arrived at Veḷudvāra. Now concerning that Master Gotama such a fair report of fame has spread abroad: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One: an arahant (arahaṃ), a perfectly enlightened one, accomplished in true knowledge and conduct, fortunate, knower of the world, unsurpassed trainer of persons to be tamed, teacher of devas and humans, enlightened, blessed. Having realized it with his own direct knowledge, he makes known this world with its devas, its Māra, and its Brahmā, this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its devas and humans. He teaches the Dhamma that is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, with its meaning and its phrasing; he reveals the holy life that is entirely complete and purified. It is good indeed to see such arahants.'"
