[1479] "But this, Ānanda, is not surprising — that one who has come to be human should die. Yet if, each time someone has died, you should approach me and question me about this matter, that would indeed be wearisome for the Tathāgata. Therefore, Ānanda, I will teach the exposition of the Dhamma called the Mirror of the Dhamma (dhammādāsa), endowed with which a noble disciple, if he so wishes, could declare of himself by himself: 'Destroyed for me is hell (niraya), destroyed the animal womb, destroyed the realm of ghosts (pettivisaya), destroyed the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower world; I am a stream-enterer (sotāpanna), no longer subject to downfall, fixed in destiny, with full awakening (sambodhi) as my destination.'"
