[1484] "And what, bhikkhus, is that way of practice going upward (udayagāminī paṭipadā) which leads to complete disenchantment (nibbidā) … to Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) possesses unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha thus: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One.' … in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha … He possesses the virtues dear to the noble ones (ariyakantāni sīlāni) — unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi). This, bhikkhus, is that way of practice going upward which leads to complete disenchantment, to dispassion, to cessation, to peace, to direct knowledge, to full awakening, to Nibbāna."
