[1483] Bhikkhus, that [practice] of the brahmins is a course of fools, a course of the deluded; it does not lead to disenchantment (nibbidā), to dispassion (virāga), to cessation (nirodha), to peace (upasama), to direct knowledge (abhiññā), to full awakening (sambodhi), or to Nibbāna (nibbāna). But I, bhikkhus, in the discipline of the Noble One, declare a practice going upward (udayagāminī paṭipadā), one that leads exclusively to disenchantment, to dispassion, to cessation, to peace, to direct knowledge, to full awakening, to Nibbāna.
