[1486] "Friend, it is because of the abandoning of four things and by reason of the possession of four things that this people has been declared by the Blessed One to be stream-enterers (sotāpanna), no longer subject to downfall, fixed in destiny, with awakening as their destination. Which four? Friend, the kind of lack of confidence in the Buddha endowed with which an unlearned worldling, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in the plane of misery, the bad destination, the lower realm, hell — such lack of confidence in the Buddha he does not have. And friend, the kind of confirmed confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha endowed with which a learned noble disciple, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world — such confirmed confidence in the Buddha he does have: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One … the Teacher of devas and humans, the Awakened One, the Blessed One.'"
