[1506] "It is good, dear sir (mārisa), to be possessed of confirmed confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One.' It is because of being possessed of confirmed confidence in the Buddha, dear sir, that these beings are stream-enterers (sotāpanna), no longer subject to the lower realms, fixed in destiny, with awakening as their destination.
"It is good, dear sir, [to be possessed of confirmed confidence] in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha …. It is good to be possessed of the virtues dear to the noble ones (ariyakanta sīla) — unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi). It is because of being possessed of the virtues dear to the noble ones, dear sir, that these beings are stream-enterers, no longer subject to the lower realms, fixed in destiny, with awakening as their destination."
