[1592] "But, venerable sir, in what way is a lay follower (upāsaka) accomplished in faith (saddhā)?" "Here, Mahānāma, a lay follower has faith; he places faith in the awakening of the Tathāgata thus: 'Indeed, that Blessed One is … teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One.' In this way, Mahānāma, a lay follower is accomplished in faith."
