[1593] "Venerable sir, in what way is a lay follower (upāsaka) accomplished in generosity (cāga)?" "Here, Mahānāma, a lay follower dwells at home with a mind free from the stain of stinginess (macchera), freely generous, open-handed, delighting in relinquishment, devoted to charity, delighting in giving and sharing. In this way, Mahānāma, a lay follower is accomplished in generosity."
