[1594] "But to what extent, venerable sir, is a lay follower (upāsaka) accomplished in wisdom (paññā)?" "Here, Mahānāma, a lay follower is wise: he possesses the wisdom that discerns arising and passing away, which is noble and penetrative, leading rightly to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha). To this extent, Mahānāma, a lay follower is accomplished in wisdom."
