[1628] "Mahānāma, a wise lay follower (upāsaka) who is sick, suffering, and gravely ill should be consoled by a wise lay follower with four consoling qualities (assāsaniyā dhammā): 'Take assurance, venerable sir: you have unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha — "Thus indeed is that Blessed One … teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One." Take assurance, venerable sir: you have unwavering confidence in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha … You possess the virtues dear to the noble ones — unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi).'"
