[1670] "Bhikkhus, so long as my knowledge (ñāṇa) and vision as it really is (yathābhūta), with its three phases and twelve aspects, regarding these four noble truths (ariyasacca) was not thoroughly purified, so long, bhikkhus, did I not claim to have fully awakened to the unsurpassed perfect awakening (anuttarā sammāsambodhi) in the world with its devas, with its Māra, with its Brahmā, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its devas and humans. But when, bhikkhus, my knowledge and vision as it really is, with its three phases and twelve aspects, regarding these four noble truths was thoroughly purified, then, bhikkhus, I claimed to have fully awakened to the unsurpassed perfect awakening in the world with its devas, with its Māra, with its Brahmā, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its devas and humans. And the knowledge and vision arose in me: 'Unshakable is my liberation (vimutti); this is my last birth (jāti); now there is no renewed existence.'"
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Elated, the bhikkhus of the group of five delighted in the Blessed One's utterance.
