[1700] Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics or brahmins do not understand as it really is: 'This is suffering (dukkha)'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the origin of suffering'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the cessation of suffering'; do not understand as it really is: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering' — these, bhikkhus, I do not regard as ascetics among ascetics or as brahmins among brahmins; and these venerable ones do not, in this very life, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge (abhiññā), enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism or the goal of brahminhood.
