[235] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as whatever great rivers there are — that is to say, the Gaṅgā, the Yamunā, the Aciravatī, the Sarabhū, and the Mahī — all of them slant toward the east, slope toward the east, incline toward the east; even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu developing the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
