[189] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as whatever great rivers there are — that is, the Gaṅgā, the Yamunā, the Aciravatī, the Sarabhū, and the Mahī — all of them slant toward the east, slope toward the east, incline toward the east; even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu developing the noble eightfold path (magga), making much of the noble eightfold path, slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
