[262] The setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as, of whatever woven cloths there are, Kāsi cloth (vāsikavatthaṃ) is declared the foremost — even so, bhikkhus, whatever wholesome (kusala) dhammas there are, all of them are rooted in diligence (appamāda), converge upon diligence, and diligence is declared the foremost among those dhammas. Bhikkhus, of a diligent bhikkhu this may be expected: that he will develop the noble eightfold path (magga), that he will cultivate the noble eightfold path.
