[393] When he develops these seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), his mind (citta) is liberated from the taint of sensual pleasures (kāmāsava), his mind is liberated from the taint of existence (bhavāsava), his mind is liberated from the taint of ignorance (avijjāsava). When it is liberated, there is the knowledge (ñāṇa): "It is liberated." He understands: "Birth is destroyed, the holy life has been lived, what was to be done has been done, there is no more of this state of being."
Bhikkhu, because they lead to awakening, they are therefore called factors of awakening.
