[4] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling among the Sakyans, where there was a town of the Sakyans named Sakkara. Then the Venerable Ānanda approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the Venerable Ānanda said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, this is half of the holy life (brahmacariya), namely, good friendship (kalyāṇamittatā), good companionship, good comradeship."
