[456] And how, bhikkhus, are the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) developed, how are they made much of, so that they lead to the abandoning of things conducive to the fetters (saññojaniyā dhammā)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness, dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in release … he develops the awakening factor of equanimity, dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in release. Thus developed, bhikkhus, thus made much of, the seven factors of awakening lead to the abandoning of things conducive to the fetters.
