[459] "It is wonderful, venerable sir! It is marvellous, venerable sir! How great indeed, venerable sir, are my love and reverence for the Blessed One, and my shame and fear of wrongdoing (hiri-ottappa)! For formerly, venerable sir, when I was a householder, I had little regard for the Dhamma, little regard for the Saṅgha. It was I who, seeing love and reverence, shame and fear of wrongdoing toward the Blessed One, went forth from the household life into homelessness. And the Blessed One taught me the Dhamma thus: 'Such is form, such is the origin of form, such is the passing away of form; such is feeling (vedanā) … such is perception … such are volitional formations … such is consciousness, such is the origin of consciousness, such is the passing away of consciousness.'"
