[636] "Venerable sir, what is the name of this exposition of the Dhamma (dhammapariyāya)?" "These, prince, are called the hindrances (nīvaraṇa)." "Indeed, Blessed One, they are hindrances! Indeed, Fortunate One (sugata), they are hindrances! Venerable sir, one overcome by even a single hindrance would not know, would not see, as it really is — what then to say of the five hindrances?"
