[696] Setting at Sāvatthī. There the Blessed One … said this:
"Bhikkhus, one speaking of an 'aggregate of the unwholesome,' speaking rightly, would speak of the five hindrances (nīvaraṇa). For this aggregate of the unwholesome is entirely just this: the five hindrances. Which five? The hindrance of sensual desire, the hindrance of ill will, the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness, the hindrance of restlessness and remorse, the hindrance of doubt. Bhikkhus, one speaking of an 'aggregate of the unwholesome,' speaking rightly, would speak of these five hindrances. For this aggregate of the unwholesome is entirely just this: the five hindrances."
