[697] Bhikkhus, one speaking of "a heap of the wholesome (kusala)," speaking rightly, would speak of the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). For this entire heap of the wholesome, bhikkhus, is just this: the four establishments of mindfulness. Which four? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. In feelings (vedanā) … in the mind (citta) … he dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world. Bhikkhus, one speaking of "a heap of the wholesome," speaking rightly, would speak of these four establishments of mindfulness. For this entire heap of the wholesome, bhikkhus, is just this: the four establishments of mindfulness.
