[699] Bhikkhus, therefore do not wander in what is not your proper range (gocara), in the domain of others (paravisaya). Bhikkhus, for those who wander in what is not their proper range, in the domain of others, Māra will gain access, Māra will gain an object. And what, bhikkhus, is not a bhikkhu's proper range, being the domain of others? It is these five cords of sensual pleasure (kāmaguṇā). What five? Forms cognizable by the eye that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, endearing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust; sounds cognizable by the ear; odours cognizable by the nose; tastes cognizable by the tongue; tangibles cognizable by the body that are wished for, desirable, agreeable, endearing, connected with sensuality, provocative of lust. This, bhikkhus, is not a bhikkhu's proper range; it is the domain of others.
